Kumquat

The kumquat is small and no bigger than 3cm. It is similar looking to a small orange, but is a different structure to other citrus fruit and does have its own genus: fortunella.

The kumquats thin set rind is not pithy and is edible so can be eaten as a whole fruit. The taste ca n be quite bitter, though some are sweeter than others. They are eaten raw as a fruit, but can be sliced and eaten in salads or used as a garnish, candied or added to marmalades or sliced into sweet tarts.
