Canteloupe is named after the Italian town of Cantalupo near Rome, this fairly small melon has green skin marked with distinctive golden pattern and with segments marked out by greenish 'ribs'.
Its pale orange flesh has a sweet almost perfumed flavour. Melons are eaten raw, sometimes scooped into balls.
