Orantique

From FoodBook
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Orantique also known as honey tangerine for its sweet flavour, the ortanique is a mandarin-orange hybrid.

It's sometimes known as tango. Orantiques were discovered in Jamaica early in the 20th century and believed to be a chance cross fertilisation, rather than a deliberate cultivar. They have juicy flesh with a distinctive acid-sweet flavour and few or no pips. The skin is mustard yellow to orange in colour, marked with brown specks. They are eaten raw, but can also be used in cakes or desserts.
