Also known as Pummelo and shaddock, the pomelo is the largest citrus fruit, sometimes growing to 30.5cm.

The thick dimpled, yellowish or greenish rind can be peeled away easily to reveal the pale pinkish segments of flesh inside. Often quite dry in texture, the fruit has an intriguing sweet flavour. Thought to be native to Malaysia or Indonesia. The pomelo fruit is usually eaten raw as a fruit and may also be used in asian type salads. In some parts of China the rind can be boiled and used as a vegetable.
