Red onion

With a distinctive dark red/purple papery skin, red onions vary in shaped size, but all have a crisp white flesh tinged with magenta. It has a mild taste and is best eaten raw, and is often eaten in salsas, salads, dressings and marinated dishes. However red onions are not useful for flavouring stews or soups. However, they are lovely roasted whole and served as an accompaniment.
