Smaller and slightly flatter in shape oranges, satsumas are large tangerines that were developed in Japan in the 16th century and have achieved worldwide popularity for several reasons.

Their loose, almost 'baggy' skin makes them easy to peel. They have a sweet, slightly tart flavour that is less acidic than many of other tangerines.
